The entire group had quite a showing at the Virtual Enterprise state competition which was recently held in Bakersfield. The two day State Trade Show event hosted more than fifty teams from around the state and took place at the Rabobank Theater and Convention Center.

Virtual Enterprises classes in the Kern High School District allows students to gain valuable experience in all aspects of the business world, with special emphasis placed on creating software, online transactions and marketing.

The BHS Business Plan Executive Board consists of Zach Bryant, Kelly Little, Cassidy Grimsley, Katie Jameson, Parker Coon and the Advisor, Ryker Solano.

They won first place in the state of California in the Business Plan category and are now preparing to head to New York City in the spring to participate in the national competition. Their plan was designed for their virtual business called H2Grow, a hydroponics company saving time, water, money and space. Their indoor gardening vision uses 85% less water than a typical farm, without soil.

“This program requires a lot of hard work, a lot of hours. It’s totally worth it. We are so far ahead of the people we will be competing for jobs with someday. This is hands-on learning.” – Katie Jameson, Chief Executive Officer, H2GROW.

“I have seen students offered part-time jobs or internships solely based on the work they do in Virtual Enterprise. Every year at our State Trade Show, I speak with numerous employers who are amazed by the professionalism of the students involved in the program.” – Ryker Solano, Virtual Enterprise Advisor

The BHS award winning business plan consisted of creating a twenty page document covering business strategy, strengths and weakness, financial documents, market planning and research. All this information was presented to a panel of professional business people during the competition phase.

The Virtual Enterprise class from BHS also received high honors in the state competition for their work in the following categories: Perfect Pitch, Marketing, Newsletter, Human Resources, Video Commercial and the Billboard Challenge.
