Newport News Municipal Employees Credit Union

PSECU soon will break ground on its new headquarters and data center in Susquehanna Township.

The $65 million construction contract for the project was awarded to a Pittsburgh-area construction group, which is expected to award subcontract work to companies from outside the midstate, according to the trades council.

The same companies do not pay employees the standard living wage rates for the industry, the council said.

The council and trade union protesters rallied outside PSECU’s headquarters from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Representatives from PSECU and the trades council could not immediately be reached for comment.

PSECU plans to move to a new 235, 500-square-foot headquarters at Kohn Road and Elmerton Avenue.

Construction is expected to wrap in the spring of 2013 and PSECU should finish moving in by August of that year.
